Sleeping and School

JP will be starting school for the first time in a few weeks. I'm not quite sure what to do about all the sleep issues though. He is a pretty good sleeper goes in phases of how long he sleeps - I think it relates to when he is growing! Most of the summer he has slept past 8 a.m. which has been wonderful. The problem is that when he goes to school in the fall we will have to leave the house at 8. That means that I will have to have woken him up and given him breakfast before we go. (I will also have to wake up Kyle who has been sleeping this late also). I am not looking forward to this because I know that this cycle of waking up earlier will become habit forming. We are in between an afternoon nap - if he sleeps at nap time he takes a long time to fall asleep at night and if he doesn't take a nap he starts to get crabby near bedtime. Am I just going to have to move his bedtime earlier so that he gets the same amount of sleep? I welcome any thoughts from my mom friends out there!

  1. When this happened to us, I got rid of the afteroon name and moved bedtime up. After we eat dinner, there's just a short time before they go to bed. We use that to take baths and get ready for the next day. Our kids go to bed at 7:30 and wake up at 7. It works out great for us!

It's hard to let go of the afternoon nap, but I'd much rather have tired kids at the end of the day than wide awake kids until 10pm! I hope you find something that works:)
